Natural Remedies to Reduce Snoring

Snoring can be a major nuisance not only to the person snoring but their partners as well. Snoring makes for restless nights which can make for difficult days. Feeling tired all the time is no way to go through life, but this is a reality that many snorers and their families must deal with. Luckily there are many solutions for the snorer. Whether you snore every night or only occasionally due perhaps to a cold or other temporary external factor, there are plenty of options available.

Certainly you've seen the advertisements for products that keep the nose's airways open, or devices that force you to sleep in a position in which you don't snore. Perhaps you have seen the rows of sprays and other decoctions which claim to keep airways smooth and free from obstruction. While some of these remedies do work for some people there is often an easier answer.

If you are a chronic snorer and haven't gone to see your doctor yet, you should do so. Snoring can be the sign of another type of problem or illness, such as sleep apnea. Some problems can be solved by certain medication. However, if you are in good health, don't drink, don't have an allergic reaction to milk, and aren't overweight you may want to try some alternative natural remedies. Since snoring is usually the result of another condition holistic approaches often treats the reason you're snoring, not just the snore.

Many people swear by aromatherapy. Aromatherapy uses essential oils to treat and alleviate many conditions through receptors in the skin and nose. However, you should always take great care with aromatherapy since the essential oils can actually be toxic when used in high amounts. Never use oil directly on the skin (unless otherwise directed), it should be diluted in a carrier oil or the scent inhaled via an oil/water combination. Certain essential oils such as marjoram can help to clear airways of mucus.

There are many different herbal remedies that claim to help clear airways of mucus and other obstructions. However, some herbal remedies can react with some medications you are taking and you should research each herb well before try them.

Reflexology is a therapy that may work for some snorers. It can help to stimulate certain parts of the body via the manipulation of certain areas on the feet and should be done by a licensed practitioner. This can help with elimination and reduce the buildup of mucus.

Remember that before trying any natural remedy you should always check with your doctor to ensure you are in good health and your snoring is not the sign of another medical condition.
